Feathers are considered messages and messengers from the World Above. They are light, almost ineffable, and represent the ability to fly.
I remember when I read Angaangaq 's first book "Melt the ice in your hearts".
Angaangaq tells of the importance that feathers have for his people (Eskimo): in fact they are often a sign of recognition of the shaman. There are different ways of receiving a feather, sometimes finding it along one's path, as a gift and message from the Spirits, from the living Cosmos; at other times, instead, given by the people of the community.
This is an extremely important gift that cannot be given or accepted lightly. This gift involves taking responsibility towards those people and the community and at the same time a recognition, as giving a feather is synonymous with recognizing the shaman in you.

I could say that the feather as a symbol of recognition of the shaman is a feature common to different traditions.

We find feathers in different headdresses: from Native American tribal leaders, to Aztec dancers, to the headdresses of the Nepalese Jhakri.
As we will see later, however, feathers are not only present in headdresses, but are also inserted in various ritual objects to infuse them with greater power and protection.

When we encounter a feather on our way, it could therefore indicate an important message from the subtle worlds. Maybe we are asking ourselves about a question and awaiting an answer ... other times, however, the Spirits want us to know that we are not alone or that we are on the right path.

A large "collection" of feathers will represent our spiritual power, but beware! It is not a game, it cannot be cheated! Today it is easy to buy feathers in shops, feathers of various kinds ... these will have no value, because they did not come from spirits.

Straight or reverse

Interesting, however, is a symbolic aspect. You all know that a feather has a "forehand" and a "backhand", so like many things it has a dual aspect. Well, feathers are a good omen when they are in the right direction, that is to say the "straight", while a bad omen if in the "reverse".
This means that even when we use them it is important to always keep them in the correct way.

The specific meaning of feathers

As I mentioned before, each feather then has specific characteristics depending on the bird of origin, as the feathers represent precisely that animal with its symbolic and energetic characteristics. Having the feathers of a particular bird means forming an alliance and a relationship with that animal and being able to draw on its gifts.
