Pansy is a flower that means a lot to the giver and the recipient. In the language of flowers, giving a pansy is equivalent to saying to the person to whom it is given "I think of you" or "you are always in my thoughts". It is therefore a very romantic flower used above all by lovers. This plant is native to Europe, tropical areas and America, both north and south. It has very large and brightly colored flowers ranging from black to white, although the most common one is purple. The flowers, however, are devoid of perfume, have five petals with a dark or yellow center, but always in contrast with the rest of the flower. Some species have dark veins on the flower; the leaves are dark green and oval in shape. Violets bloom in the coolest periods of the year, i.e. in autumn, winter and early spring.

The meaning of the pansy refers strictly to some legends, especially of French origin, according to which in the petals of this flower it would be possible to recognize the face of the loved one. Giving one of these plants, therefore, brings with it a single and simple message: “think of me, I always think of you”. Pansy is the flower of lovers, sweet, tender and delicate but also resistant. In the past, in fact, it was used to create infusions, love potions and so on.

Furthermore, the pansy was so popular in Europe that even Shakespeare mentions it in Hamlet among the flowers that Ophelia offers to her brother. More generally, therefore, we can say that the flower is linked to the positive thoughts that a person has towards another he loves, particularly if these people have good memories to share.

Nowadays, as in the past, it is believed that the pansy has important diuretic, laxative, sedative and, in general, purifying properties. In 1600, for example, the infusion of this flower was recommended to treat spasms, chest and lung inflammation; it was also indicated to reduce fever and calm itching, dermatitis, eczema and skin irritations and even to treat urinary disorders and cystitis.
