Rose Quartz

Rose quartz is one of those gemstones that are very popular with stone collectors and lithotherapy specialists. The hue of the quartz is mainly due to the presence of metal oxides, manganese, titanium and microinclusions of dumortierite. Rose quartz is a transparent to opaque stone, its brilliance is white and glassy, and its crystal system is trigonal. Rose quartz has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, and has a constant density of 2.65.

The color of rose quartz comes in a wide range of shades ranging from pale pink to dark pink. Peach or orange reflections can be observed depending on the type and density of the metals and inclusions that make up the stone. The most precious pink quartzes have the rare characteristic of presenting, once cut into cabochons, white lines that cross in a sort of asterisk of 6-12 branches. This stone is called "starry rose quartz".

The most notable deposits of rose quartz, which produce stones of the highest quality, are found mainly in Brazil, more precisely in the Minais Gerais field, in the United States, in the state of Albany, in Tanzania and in Madagascar.

History of rose quartz

Rose quartz wasn't always called that. In ancient times the stone was recognized with various names such as Bohemian ruby, Ancona ruby or Silesian ruby. The stone was known in almost all the great civilizations of antiquity. According to archaeological findings, statuettes, statuettes, jewelry and even rose quartz utensils, dating back more than 6000 years BC, have been discovered in Mesopotamia. For the ancient Egyptians, rose quartz was the stone of Isis, sister and wife of the god Osiris and major goddess of the pantheon of this great civilization.

In several ancient cultures of the Mediterranean, rose quartz has been associated with the deities of love: Aphrodite and Venus respectively for the Greeks and Romans, Astarte for the Phoenicians, Turan for the Etruscans ... Greek mythology will attribute the genesis of the stone to the unfortunate loves of Aphrodite and Adonis. Rose quartz would be the fruit of the mixed and crystallized blood of the goddess and the mortal. Later, on the mysterious American continent, one of the famous 13 crystal skulls, discovered between Guatemala and Honduras, was allegedly made of rose quartz. According to Mayan legend, this skull, combined with the other 12, would reveal great secrets of the universe.
